Into The Unknown

The Creepy Zeppelin

So I was photowalking on Treasure Island this past Sunday. I visited the Trauma set, took some pretty panoramas of the bay, visited my old elementary school (I went to Treasure Island Elementary for two months before being transferred to Tenderloin Elementary back in '98), and got some pictures of the empty Bay Bridge from Forest Road. What I did not expect to see was the Zeppelin. What I also did not expect to see was how low the zeppelin was flying.

I saw the Zeppelin exactly three times while I was on the island. The first time I saw the zeppelin on Treasure Island I was on California Avenue, walking towards Avenue N. When the building ended, and all of a sudden - there it was.

I then saw it again on Avenue I and 11th, just flying up there.

Eventually, the zeppelin sailed off to other parts of the Bay Area, around the Angel Island area. When I finally got to Avenue of the Palms, there it was again, out of nowhere! It was flying towards San Francisco - and that was the last time I saw it.

It especially felt creepy since I felt like that I was the only person on the island, which was pretty creepy.

Dalewood Street

Dalewood Street is thought by many as the steepest street in San Francisco. Wrong! It may look steep, but it actually isn't as steep as Filbert between Hyde and Leavenworth and 22nd between Vicksburg and Church. But, see for yourself:

Is it steep? Is it not steep?

Trauma Trove

You've probably heard this many times while watching a familiar show. Hmmm...I wonder if it's Trauma? Yes, it's Trauma, and yes, they are based in Treasure Island. But did you know where City Hospital actually is? Well, it's not at SF General for sure...but I came upon this one day while checking out Treasure Island. And you remember that Muni bus you saw yesterday (or in early October on the Muni Diaries?) on Trauma? Anyway, enjoy!

Emptiness Is The Bay Bridge

The Bay Bridge was closed because this eyebar thing, which was holding up a broken eyebar, came down and damaged three vehicles. And thus, the closure lasted six days, only to re-open this morning. And it just so happens that November is the time that I would head over to Treasure Island, so I decided to take advantage of the empty Bay Bridge while I still could by taking the 108 over to Treasure Island, and eventually I ended up photographing the bridge:

My 10 Demands To Fix Muni

Last Ride (by Whole Wheat Toast)

Well, it's possible you heard by now, but Muni's service changes will happen on December 5, 2009. Not a big deal, right? Well, it is a big deal, especially because Muni doesn't work well as it is. Let me elaborate.

Earlier today, Akit from the Complaint Department blogged 20 things that should happen to Muni. Well, I got ten more to add to that list:

  1. PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY NOW!

  2. Make Central Subway as a LOW-FLOOR SEGMENT with Wayside Platforms for wheelchairs, it'll pay off in the long run. Also make the Market Street Subway and Third Street Light Rail low-floor.

  3. Coherent scheduling. Why does my 19 stops either five minutes early or ten minutes late BUT NEVER ON TIME?

  4. What are we paying Nathaniel Ford 330K a year for?

  5. Historic Streetcars on the F-line please! Also, make it possible to run the streetcars in the Twin Peaks Tunnel to increase ridership to the Zoo.

  6. There needs to be Fare Inspectors and cops on routes where crime and fare evasion is not only high, but also like to happen (i.e. the 19-Polk route that leaves Polk/Francisco at 3:15 has people literally forcing their way through the back door, which can damage the back doors on the buses).

  7. Space bus stops every two blocks on grades under 10%, every block on grades between 11% and 20%, and every half-block to three-quarters block on grades 21% and above.

  8. Customer Service is a MUST! What happens to drivers who get complaints? They just get swept under the rug (ahem, Mrs. Maria Williams?)

  9. TRANSLINK FOR YOUTH! I signed up for mine last week but never received notification of when the next sign-up event will be.

  10. Do not rename the 9X to the 8X, because that's just dumb.

And that wraps up my list. Got more? You know what to do. (Comment.)

Halloween In The Castro Embarcadero

Yesterday, as you may have known, was Halloween. Since the Castro Celebration was over before it began, other people decided to move on to Polk Street (which happens to be my neighborhood, by the way) and the Embarcadero (which I decided to go because there was a flash mob there). There were a flurry of people just standing there, waiting for the Take Back Halloween Flash Mob.

Happy Halloween!

As you guys all know, today is Halloween. I didn't really go Trick-or-Treating, but, after all 16 is a bit too old to be Trick-or-Treating, right? In order words, Robin Williams is planning on giving away iPods tonight...but, he probably ran out already. If you're still at home not partying with others, and have nothing to do, go out :) If you don't want to go out, here's some Haunted Dioramas I've found around San Francisco:

The Golden Hour

The Golden Hour (by Whole Wheat Toast)

Even though it's a matter of weeks before they finish off the entire building, it may be the last chance to cherish the final piece of the Tuna Cannery.
