The Saint Francis Wood Fountain

San Francisco is a very diverse place. Believe me, it is. First, you have the Bayview, where one-half of it is safe and the other half is pretty questionable. Then you have the low-to-middle class people, living in neighborhoods such as Visitaction Valley, Chinatown, Balboa Terrace, Oceanview-Merced Heights-Ingleside, Portola, Excelsior, anywhere. Next, you have the mid-to-upper middle class, living in gentrified areas such as Nob Hill (my hood, by the way), Russian Hill, Dogpatch, Potrero Hill, Mission, Noe Valley, Mission Bay, Ashbury Heights and more. And finally, you have the yuppie. Sure, there are trademark neighborhood everyone goes on Halloween to get free iPods or PSPs (like Seacliff) or the trademark neighborhood for wealthy politicians who hire rentapigs to prevent shutterbugs from flicking a photo of their house (like Pacific Heights), and, then, you have, the yuppie neighborhood with lots of trees. One of the yuppie neighborhood with lots of trees has lots of single-level homes with a bear (like Forest Hill), and you have the neighborhood which has lots of single-level homes, and lots of trees, but also with two fountains (like Saint Francis Wood. Hey wait a minute, isn't the fountain in St. Francis Wood?). Let me introduce to you, the Saint Francis Wood Fountain.

Nestled at the end of Saint Francis Boulevard, which is basically the extension of Sloat Boulevard, but not as wide, I think, is a very wonderful fountain. It is a city treasure as I don't really see anyone utilizing the fountain. It is a great place to go if you want to think and concentrate, as the water trickling really relaxes and comforts you.

The fountain itself was probably built in the 1920s when nearby development was going on. Daniel Burham promoted the City Beautiful movement in this neighborhood, which is why you see lots of trees, unique sidewalks, extra-wide streets and no businesses whatsoever.

This is not the only fountain on St. Francis Boulevard. There is another fountain that's just as good at Santa Ana and St. Francis. You can see that fountain on the 23.
